Yes! Rhys Ford wrote a sequel to Murder and Mayhem, the first book in the series. Of course in this installment Rook gets into trouble again and lots of it. Like in the first book, someone has it out for Rook and there is only so much Dante can do to keep Rook out of it.
In the second book we see Rook more settled with his partner, police detective Dante. He’s let his walls down more and he’s not as cagey or flighty as he was in the first book. But it’s hard and it doesn’t help when he’s accused of murder…. again. Although this time it’s closer to home.
Tramps and Thieves is the perfect continuation in the series. Despite the plot, which has some hallmarks of the first book, we get more into the lives of Rook, Dante and their friends and family. We also see more insight into the characters of Rook and Dante. I thought it was well done and well written and it makes the book worth reading.
I liked the plot okay, but it was not exactly original although this type of plot is a distinctive feature for the author. It’s the characters that make it worth reading.
The writing is good, similar to a lot of the stories written by Rhys Ford. It’s not as heavy on the flowery, soulful writing as some of the other books, but the angst is put on thick, but it does fit the characters and the type of books she writes.
It was nice to see Rook’s relationship with his grandfather grow with their ups and downs. Of course Manny is there too and and him and Archie together is just… well you’ll have to find that out for yourself!
Should you read this book? If you liked the first book and you like books by Rhys Ford in general, then yes, this book is for you!
