Hello all! Thank you for joining me on the last stop of our blog tour for A Rose by Any Other Name. And a big thank you to Bookwinked for having me. Throughout the tour we’ve chatted a little about the roaring twenties in gay NYC, how classic Hollywood movies have influenced my historicals, the Erotes, and even spent some time with Harlan and Nathan from Roses in the Devil’s Garden who played a part in A Rose by Any Other Name. Although he’s been briefly mentioned before, I thought it would be a shame not to talk about the dangerous man who brings everything crashing down around our lovebirds.
When Julius and Edward meet, their lives are forever changed. The biggest challenge our heroes face isn’t finding love (though Julius doesn’t exactly make it easy for poor Edward), it’s keeping it. Every good old fashioned love story needs a villain, and A Rose by Any Other Name is no exception. Ares is one of those villains you love to hate. He’s confident and arrogant, unafraid to push his weight around because he knows only a fool with a death wish would cross him. He has this air about him. To him, people are nothing but commodities he owns and puts to use. If they’re no longer of any use to him, he rids himself of them. He showers Julius with expensive trinkets, makes him feel like a prince. But Ares doesn’t give anything without taking some form of payment.
He’s a mysterious man, a dangerous gangster purposefully keeping a low profile despite all the dough he’s got. He looks unscrupulous, right down to the scar on his face and hoodlums keeping guard around him wherever he goes. But unlike your run of the mill ruffian, Ares is as smart as he is ruthless–and boy, is he ruthless! He watches and studies from the shadows, carrying on in a civil and almost polite manner, biding his time, waiting for the right moment to show his true nature. In A Rose by Any Other Name, Ares is none too pleased when he discovers Edward has his sights set on his Eros. So Ares does what he does best. He waits and works behind the scenes gathering information he can put to use, learning his enemy’s weakness so that when he strikes, there’s no chance of losing. And Ares never loses. Will Ares have finally found his match? Or will Julius and Edward lose everything?

Nights in the roaring city remind bright young things that life’s too short to take for granted. Tucked away in Times Square hides the Pantheon: a secret cabaret for wealthy gay men. Pretty young men in elaborate costumes and rouged lips are eager to please, and the champagne flows all night long. It’s a world of frivolity, fantasy, and debauchery. As Eros, the most sought after performer at the Pantheon, Julius uses his beauty and charm on enthusiastic patrons, but growing weary of superficial love, he longs to make a better life for himself.
Five years after being declared mentally unfit after surviving the trenches of No Man’s Land, Edward Joseph Clarence Junior pieced his shattered life back together. Now he’s ready to take on the family empire. To celebrate his thirtieth birthday, Edward’s cousin takes him to the most posh nightclub in town, the Pantheon. Falling under the sway of Eros, Edward and Julius find a love they’ve never imagined and the chance for a future they had only dared to dream about. But as Ares, a notorious gangster and Julius’s most important—and dangerous— client watches them, the threat to their love and their lives grows by the day.
