Featured Books: Cemeteries by Moonlight – Hunter Frost

Featured Books is a few item at Bookwinked. It’s a post about a book I really liked and want to talk and fangirl about without the restrictions of a review.

Cemeteries by Moonlight by Hunter Frost – a new to me author – is a book that has elements of romance and mystery and is set in New Orleans with not-so-average characters. All the elements I like in a book. Plus cemeteries, voodoo, ghost tours and food, what is not to like?

Drew Daniels is an author with a wicked case of writer’s block and one scheming, matchmaking aunt. She lures him to New Orleans with the promise of an empty apartment for a little writer’s retreat. What he finds when he gets there is a very inhabited apartment. The apartment is let out to the very sexy Finn Murphy who does Ghost Tours in Quarter, makes delicious Gumbo and loves his labels.

The two hit it off, despite Drew hiding that he has Tourette and takes legal Mary J. for it. Things are further complicated when there is a murder that hits close to home for Finn and chaos erupts.

It’s a lovely story that is equally balanced between the romance and the mystery. The plot angle for the mystery is not as clear-cut as it may seem at first and I liked that. It’s a little fun story that packs a punch. More so because of the diverse characters. Finn is a ghost tour operator from the wrong side of the tracks and has quite the temper. Drew is shy and his life is marked by Tourette’s, something he is ashamed of and thinks he needs to hide to be normal.

Hunter Frost is adept at creating memorable characters and he did so with Drew and Finn. There is also quite the support cast in the form of Finn’s friend. There are some interesting group dynamics here They were a little underdeveloped in the story, but fun to read about.

Hunter Frost may be a new to be author, but other books by this author are already on my to read list!

When a serious bout of writer’s block threatens to delay mystery author Drew Daniels’s newest book, his aunt offers her New Orleans apartment in the heart of the French Quarter as a writing retreat. She neglects to mention that it’s occupied by the enigmatic and sexy Finn Murphy, a cemetery tour guide with a penchant for Victorian attire and a Cajun accent.

A body discovered in an open crypt forces reclusive Drew to deal with Finn’s eccentric group of friends and his underlying attraction to the hot Cajun—despite warnings about Finn’s violent past. Drew might write this stuff, but he’s never had to solve a real-life murder. With a deadline looming and a killer on the loose, this retreat is proving to be anything but helpful for Drew’s novel. Drew can only hope he won’t end up a tragic tale for the Ghostly Legends & Lore, Inc. haunted tour.
